Hello everyone! This is a blog started by a couple of comic book lovers: Andrew and John. We wanted to share our opinions on some of the series’ we love (and hate). On this blog we will be posting full story arch reviews, short pick of the week reviews, full pull list reviews, and a few segments such as #tbt (throwback thursday), and Savings Bin Sunday. Andrew Horton – Co-Creator, Writer

Andrew has been a comic enthusiast from a young age. After living through some teenage angst he has come back to comics with more love and tenacity than ever before. He is recently married to the greatest woman ever (sorry ya’ll), graduated from IPFW with a degree in Psychology (don’t even ask), and moved into an apartment with a view. He has recently become a father to a fur baby cat named Claude. He likes to spend his free time entertaining you all with deft key strokes and a bit of pun-ish(er?) humor.

John Small – Co-Creator, Writer

Ian Maxton – Writer

Ian Maxton has a sitcom-level on-again/off-again relationship with comics and the comic book world. He approaches comics with a critical eye, but is not immune to ecstatic, original, creative storytelling (see: Sandman). On the side he watches and writes about movies and publishes fiction and poetry. He lives in the Midwest with his wife and two stray cats.

Jerry Caskey – Associate Writer

Jerry is a system administrator and (semi) professional nitpicker by day, and new media enthusiast by night. He has spent 24 years finding patterns in day to day life and has arrived at the conclusion that everything is bizarre and unpredictable. Because of this, he appreciates two things in media (especially comics), heavy fantasy and absurdity. Intrapersonal stream of consciousness storytelling doesn’t hurt either. Favorite series: The Mutant Misadventures of Cloak and Dagger.

  1. I’ve been reading your posts in amazement. I’m someone who never reads comics (although I was addicted to Archie comics as a kid – don’t laugh), and it’s amazing to see the variety and originality in this genre.

    Question: What are your thoughts on big-screen adaptation of comic books/characters? Do you find filmmakers are true to the intent of the comics’ creators?

  2. Thanks for the compliments! The answer to your question in my opinion is yes, and no.

    some movies and or shows stick pretty close to the source material (the flash, thor, captain america) others not so much (man of steel, spider-man). In my opinion the movie doesn’t necessarily have to be exactly like the source material as long as it captures the essence of the comic. The Avengers is a good example of that. I am a liitle biased because I love marvel, but I feel like the marvel films and the universe they are creating are doing movie adaptions well.

      1. I’d like to learn more about the original material surrounding the shows I’m currently watching: Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Agent Carter. But both Marvel and DC have decades of history, so I find it difficult sometimes navigating where to begin.

        I’m thinking Gotham Central and the first volumes (Silver Age) of Barry Allen’s Flash story if I can track them down via the library. I know a bit more about DC than I do Marvel, but I’d love to know if you have any suggestions or recommendations with either.

      2. The nice thing is DC sort of relaunced their universe with the new 52. So if you can find the flash #1 and green arrow #1 you can start there. But if you can track down any silverage DC then by all means do! Its pretty great. For marvel, maybe try tracking down some howljng commandos stuff. I dont know much about agent carter to be honest.

        I and dome friends will be posting our faborite series’ on friday, so id check back then if you want suggestioms with a little bit of an idea what the series’ are about.

  8. Just wanted to say, “Thank you!” for following our blog. 🙂 Although we’re not a comic-book oriented site it doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate one. LOL Many moons ago I (Rebecca) was an avid comic book reader (Archie and the gang kept me entertained for many hours – unbelievable I know – smh). We (Mom and I) appreciate you both and we pray for your blog’s success.

    1. Hello Olaf, I haven’t posted a new post in about a month. I have new posts coming this week, a well as a new writer with new material. I had to take a break because of work for a little while. The blog will be cranking out reviews at high speeds starting in a few days. Your interest in new posts means a lot to me.
